A key fob is the part the dealer makes expensive. Einstein Locksmith replaces and programs key fobs, smart keys and push-to-start remotes on site anywhere in Boca Raton, Palm Beach and Broward County, usually the same day you call. We carry OEM and OEM-equivalent fobs for most makes in the van and program them with the same dealer-level equipment the dealership uses, without the tow and without the wait.

What we do with fobs
- Replace a lost or stolen fob. We supply the fob, cut the emergency blade inside it, and program it to your car. If it was stolen, we delete the missing fob from the car so it can no longer unlock or start it.
- Add a spare fob. Having a second one is the single cheapest insurance against an all-keys-lost job later.
- Fix a fob that stopped working. Sometimes it’s the battery. Sometimes the buttons or the circuit board are worn. Sometimes the car has lost the pairing. We diagnose which, and we tell you if it’s a two-dollar battery before we sell you anything.
- Program a fob you bought online. If it’s the right part number for your car we can usually program it. If it’s a knock-off that won’t pair, we’ll tell you, and we have the correct one in the van.
- Replace the shell or buttons. Cracked case, broken key ring loop, buttons that fell off. The electronics are moved into a new shell and the blade is recut.
- Push-to-start smart keys. Proximity keys for keyless-entry and push-button-start cars, including makes where programming has to go through the manufacturer’s diagnostic system.

Dealer vs. Einstein Locksmith
The dealer’s fob price is parts plus programming labor plus the trip there. Dealer add-a-key quotes we collected in October 2026 ran from several hundred dollars on common Japanese and American cars to well over a thousand on European smart keys, and up to $2,800 on a Bentley. We’ve had customers tell us the dealer quoted $435 for a fob we programmed in their driveway for a fraction of that.
We quote every job before we come out, and the number comes in well below the dealer. Same quality fob, same factory-level programming, done where the car sits.
How it works

- We come to you. Home, work, the mall parking lot. Most fob jobs take 15 to 40 minutes once we arrive.
- We program and test. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic, remote start if you have it, and push-button start. You watch it work before we leave.
For an all-fobs-lost job, bring your ID and proof the car is yours (registration, title or insurance card).

Frequently asked
My fob stopped working. Is it the battery? Often, yes. Try a fresh battery first (most fobs take a CR2032 or CR2025 coin cell). If a new battery doesn’t fix it, or the car says “key not detected” with a fresh battery, call us and we’ll diagnose it at the car.
Can you program a fob I bought on Amazon or eBay? Usually, if it’s the correct part for your car and not a counterfeit. We’ll try it; if it won’t pair we have the correct fob with us so you’re not stuck.
Do I need the original fob to make a new one? No. We can program a fob with no working original. Having one makes the job a little quicker and cheaper, which is why we always suggest a spare.
Does programming a new fob disable the old one? Only if you want it to. For a lost or stolen fob we delete it from the car. For a spare, both keep working.
Can you do push-button-start cars? Yes. That’s a smart key or proximity key, and we program them for all the makes above.
How long does it take? Most fobs are programmed in 15 to 40 minutes once we arrive. Some European and Jaguar Land Rover vehicles take longer, and we’ll tell you up front if your car is one of them.
What are your hours? Monday to Thursday 9am to 10pm, Friday 9am to 2pm, Sunday 10am to 6pm, closed Saturday. After-hours emergency service is available by appointment.
