What the dealer will tell you
We called the dealers ourselves. For a 2018+ Land Rover or Jaguar, here is what they quoted in October 2026:
- Add a key (you still have one): fob $407, emergency blade $220, programming $522. $1,149 before tax.
- All keys lost, 2017 Range Rover: two keys plus two replaced modules. $4,000.
- All keys lost, 2023 Range Rover Sport: two fobs, two cut keys, a new body control module, a second module and labor. $5,514 on the dealer’s invoice.
And you tow the car there first, then wait for parts.
Our price for the same job comes in well below the dealer’s. No tow, and in most cases no module replacement. Most jobs are finished the same day; if your car does need a part, we tell you up front and give you a timeline. Every job is quoted before we come out, and the number you’re given is the number you pay.
Why dealers replace modules, and why we usually don’t have to
On 2018+ JLR vehicles the keys live in a module called the RFA (remote function actuator, sometimes called the KVM). When every key is lost, the dealer’s procedure is to replace that module, often the body control module with it, and program fresh keys to the new parts. That’s where the $4,000 comes from.
We work with the RFA instead of replacing it. Depending on the car, that means:
- Non-locked RFA: we program new keys directly. Fastest case.
- Locked RFA: we handle the unlock and program keys to the existing module.
- Active alarm / no access: we gain entry without damage and work from there.
- Later EVA 2.0 / MLA cars: programmed through the factory system with the car in service mode. No module swap.
In the rare case a module replacement really is required, we tell you before we start, not after.

Frequently asked
Do I need to tow the car to a dealer? No. We come to the car.
How long does it take? Most JLR all-keys-lost jobs are done in one visit. Locked-RFA cases take longer than non-locked; we’ll tell you which you have after a quick check.
Will my old keys still work? Lost keys are removed from the car during programming, so a found key will no longer start it. That’s the point.
Is this a genuine key? Yes. OEM or OEM-equivalent keys, programmed with factory-level tools.
Why is the dealer so much more? Parts: they replace modules we can usually work with. Labor: dealer book time. Plus the tow.
